Community Hydro at the Welsh Assembly

Yesterday saw an event in the Welsh Assembly Senedd to celebrate the success of the Community Hydro project at Anafon near Abergwyngregyn which the National Trust has been closely involved in.  The main leaders of the community projects gave speeches to an audience including Welsh Assembly members.

The project has been under development since 2011 but is now ready for construction to begin in the New Year. A 270kW hydro will be installed in the Welsh Valley costing £1.25 million.  This will make it the largest community hydro project in England and Wales.

NT Wales are investing heavily in renewable energy, almost £4 million in the last three years.  The learning from projects like Anafon is being shared with other projects. At the moment we’re directly assisting 10 other community groups around Wales.

More information about this exciting project can be found here. Check out our involvement with the project on our Fit For The Future Network website here.
