A little energy inspiration with Green Open Homes

You can find out about the reality of getting solar panels, insulation, triple glazing, or new heating options without talking to a salesman. Ask the residents whether the installation was a hassle, and how much they’re really saving on their energy bills as a result.

Find out about upcoming events happening in May at www.greenopenhomes.net

One event visitor said: “We’ve been looking into solar PV for a while but after seeing an example today and talking to the owner at length, we’ve decided to go ahead.”

Others visited an event for different reasons: “We were very interested in seeing what people have done to deal with condensation problems, which we have in our old house. This is giving us some good ideas!”

Green Open Homes events are going on all over the country. Head to www.greenopenhomes.net to search the national directory and find out if there’s an open home near you. There are around a dozen events happening in May, with homes showcasing everything from simple, low-cost improvements to large renovation projects.

If there’s no event near you and you’ve made your home more energy efficient, why not think about organising your own event? There’s a range of free resources on the website to help local groups to organise their own event, with advice on getting started, insurance, marketing, recruiting hosts and volunteers, and more. There are also some small grants available to help with your event costs.
• Green Open Homes is funded by the Department of Energy and Climate Change and delivered by the Centre for Sustainable Energy [www.cse.org.uk] in partnership with Bristol Green Doors [www.bristolgreendoors.org]. The network is supported by the National Trust, Transition Network, the Association of Environmentally Conscious Builders and Forum for the Future.
