Saturday 10 September: Uncovering the Government’s hypocrisy and funding – A media round-up

The media have really cranked things up a notch with stories appearing today on the ministers who have opposed developments in their own constituency and the  millions of pounds in donations from developers who stand to benefit from the Government’s controversial planning reforms.

Ministers accused of ‘hypocrisy’ over relaxation of planning regulations. George Osborne and Eric Pickles are pushing for planning changes but oppose developments in their own constituencies.

The Conservative Party has received millions of pounds in donations from developers who stand to benefit from the Government’s controversial planning reforms.

The Telegraph also reported that ‘The Coalition is facing a backlash from Tory MPs and peers who fear the governments new planning reforms will give developers a license to build in their constituencies.’

This planning fiasco adds insult to injury to the Tory faithful says Max Hastings. The proposals for relaxing planning laws are ill-considered and must further antagonise Tories whose goodwill ministers may one day need, and whom today they spurn at their peril

  1. I did not realise when we joined the NT that we were joining a political movement. We are truly grateful that the NT resists the idea of providing an adequate supply of housing in the UK.. Since we bought our house its value has increased 10-12 times compared with a 3-4 fold increase in genral inflation. We certainly do not wish to see this tax free capital gain eroded. Ineed maybe the NT should campaign for the restoration of lots of rural villages to their previous green agricultural or wood land status. That would drive up the value of members property.
