Wednesday 24 August: Minister calls for us to withdraw our petition

Another day and another strange comment from a Government minister.

This time it’s Grant Shapps, Local Government Minister, who called on us to withdraw our petition (via an interview, rather than direct to us) on the grounds that it is ‘misleading’ and ‘deploys scares
and hyperbole’.

We responded with:

“It’s deeply interesting that during a consultation period on its planning reforms the Government is not prepared to listen to the views of the thousands of people who are opposed to what they are trying to do.

“The Government’s proposals threaten unchecked and damaging development on a scale not seen since in this country since the 1930s.

“As a developer ourselves, we believe strongly that any development must meet the needs of people, the environment as well as the economy.  The government is failing to do this in its national reforms.”
